Daily Prayer Focus

Each day, as you read the selected scripture, you might want to also journal as you meditate on the scripture, asking yourself these questions:

What does this tell me about God?

What does this tell me about myself?

How would this change my life if I took it seriously?

Day 1 | January 7

PRAYER FOCUS: Personal Spiritual Life - Knowing God and His plan for us.

VERSE: "Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!”  ROMANS 11:33 ESV

“God, I want to know You! Psalm 40:5 says, ‘many are the wonders You’ve done and the plans you have for us—none can compare to You!’ Fill my heart with wonder again. Show me Your goodness. Awaken in me a pure heart of surrender. Lead me in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 2 | January 8

PRAYER FOCUS: Clarity and direction in life decisions.

VERSE: "For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” ROMANS 11:34–35 ESV

“Father, I thank You that You are God, and I am not. Your ways are higher than my ways, and Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts. Even with all that You know, You still care personally for me. Like David says in Psalm 8, “what is man that You are mindful of him, and the Son of Man that You care for him?” Show me how to worship even when I don’t know everything. You are worthy of it. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 3 | January 9

PRAYER FOCUS: Acknowledging the Author of life

VERSE: "For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” ROMANS 11:36 ESV

“Lord Jesus, Scripture tells me that You endured the cross for the joy that was set before You. That's a joy You purchased for me! When I see glorious things in this world, help me to remember the glory that is forever found in You. And when I see glory that fades, help me to remember the joy set before me in You. Amen.”

Day 4 | January 10

PRAYER FOCUS: Living life to serve the purpose of God

VERSE:"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual act of worship.” ROMANS 12:1 ESV

“Father, thank You for your son Jesus and His sacrifice. Without Him, I am nothing. I can give You nothing. But through Him and only Him, I can offer myself as a living sacrifice. I choose to do that in this moment, Lord. Jesus has made me holy and acceptable, fit for service in Your Kingdom. Use me to reach others and impact my community. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 5 | January 11

PRAYER FOCUS: To be transformed rather than conformed.

VERSE: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” ROMANS 12:2 ESV

“Lord Jesus, You make all things new! Show me the areas of my thought life that are being conformed to this world. Help me to comprehend the height, width, depth, and breadth of Your love, which passes knowledge. Transform me today. Renew me. In Jesus’ name, amen."

Day 6 | January 12

PRAYER FOCUS: Humble Pursuit

VERSE: “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” ROMANS 12:3 ESV

“Father, I humble myself before You in this moment. I acknowledge it is only by Your grace that I can approach You in prayer, not my goodness. There have been moments in my life that I’ve had either too low or too high a view of myself. Forgive me, Father. Renew my sense of identity and humility. Help me to be grounded in Your grace. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 7 | January 13

PRAYER FOCUS: The Church and our Connection to the Body of Christ.

VERSE: “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” ROMANS 12:4-5 ESV

“Father, thank You for the truthfulness of Your Word. Thank You that I am uniquely designed and gifted to build Your Kingdom and bring Your will here on earth as it is in heaven. I ask that You always remind me to see others this way as well, to encourage those that feel left out or left behind, and to fan into flames gifts that You have given others. Renew my vision of what the Church can be. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 8 | January 14

PRAYER FOCUS: Sharing our Gifts

VERSE: “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.” ROMANS 12:6-8 ESV

“Father, Jesus prayed that the love with which You love Him may be in me. Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit and the unique gifts You have for me. Forgive me for comparing my gifts to others. Thank You for empowering me to understand the gifts You've given me and learn to use them to their fullest potential! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 9 | January 15

PRAYER FOCUS: Authentic Love

VERSE: “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.” ROMANS 12:9 ESV

“Father, Scripture tells us to behold what manner of love You have given us in Christ, that we should be called the children of God. For that's what we are. As I consider Your great love for me today, I ask that You endue me with power to let my own love be genuine. Incline my heart to You and not to selfish gain. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Day 10 | January 16

PRAYER FOCUS: Walking in Love

VERSE: “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” ROMANS 12:10 ESV

“Father, thank You for this verse today. Love and honor can sound so ordinary, but that’s what You have done for us. This is the message of the gospel. Help me, from the inside out, to love those like they’re my family. Help me to see ways I can honor others, not just to get honor in return, but because it’s what You have asked me to do. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 11 | January 17

PRAYER FOCUS: Passionate Pursuit in our Service to God

VERSE: “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” ROMANS 12:11 ESV

“Father, open my eyes and allow me to see how I’m doing in this area of work and service. I want to have a boiling spirit like Paul talks about, but I need Your help. Father, grant me the passion Your Son had while serving here on this earth. I deeply desire it. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 12 | January 18

PRAYER FOCUS: Stability and Consistency

VERSE: “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” ROMANS 12:12 ESV

“Father, I believe that You want me to have healthy rhythms, and that starts with my inner life. I want what Paul talks about in Romans 12:12. I want to be able to rejoice when a situation seems bleak, be patient when I’m anxious, and pray when I don’t feel like it. Holy Spirit, guide me in this process. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 13 | January 19

PRAYER FOCUS: Generous Hospitality Towards Others

VERSE: “Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.” ROMANS 12:13 ESV

“Father, renew our vision for hospitality. Too often we have pushed this aside instead of seeing it as a doorway into Christian community. Help me identify specific people and families I can serve, and give me the perseverance to carry it out. Father, I know it is only by Your grace and mercy that we can show grace and mercy to others. Thank You for welcoming me in. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 14 | January 20

PRAYER FOCUS: Responding to Persecution

VERSE: “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.” ROMANS 12:14 ESV

“Father, thank You for this hard but necessary truth. I know that blessing my enemies instead of cursing them is possible only with the power of Your Holy Spirit. I ask for the strength and wisdom to carry this out each and every day. Remind me of this truth when I’m tempted to forget. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 15 | January 21

PRAYER FOCUS: Showing Compassion

VERSE: “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” ROMANS 12:15 ESV

“Father, thank You for the example of Jesus. He is always with us, on the hills and in the valleys. You celebrate with us in times of triumph and comfort us in our times of hurt and brokenness. Only by the power of Your Holy Spirit can we do the same for others. Help me to do so. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 16 | January 22

PRAYER FOCUS: Living in Harmony

VERSE: “Live in harmony with one another.Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.Never be wise in your own sight.” ROMANS 12:16 ESV

“Father, thank You for reconciling us to You. I am able to seek and live in harmony with others because I am in harmony with You. In a culture that’s so combative and aggressive, I need Your help in loving those different than me. Strip away any pride that remains in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 17 | January 23

PRAYER FOCUS: Living in Peace

VERSE: “Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” ROMANS 12:17-18 ESV

“Father, thank You for making peace with me through the sacrifice of Jesus. It’s only because of the vertical peace that I have with You that I can seek it with others. Help me identify situations and people that need a peaceful spirit. Likewise, show me if there are any situations I should walk away from. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 18 | January 24

PRAYER FOCUS: Trusting God to Right the Wrongs

VERSE: “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’” ROMANS 12:19 ESV

“Father, thank You for Jesus. He had every right to get revenge on his enemies while he was here on earth. But he trusted You. Because of that, I can leave revenge to You. You have promised in Your Word that You will wipe away every tear and right all the wrongs. I trust You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 19 | January 25

PRAYER FOCUS: Loving the Unlovable

VERSE: “To the contrary, ‘if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink’ for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.’” ROMANS 12:20 ESV

“Father, thank You for Jesus, who, when confronted with the worst of human sin, stayed on the cross. I was Your enemy, an ungodly sinner, and You pursued me. You bridged the gap and walked across Yourself to bring me into Your family. Help me to love like You love, to go above and beyond when I don’t feel like it, and to love the unlovable. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 20 | January 26

PRAYER FOCUS: Overcoming Evil

VERSE: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” ROMANS 12:21 ESV

“Father, thank You for sending Jesus to defeat evil. He took on our sin and Your wrath, and then You gave us what He deserved. We can only overcome evil in our present age because Jesus conquered it with his death and resurrection. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Day 21 | January 27

PRAYER FOCUS: Living Life in Christ

VERSE: “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:4-11 ESV.

Father, we pray for renewal and refreshment in my spiritual life. I know that I have a choice on what to do moving forward on Day 22 and beyond. I pray that I will surrender myself to the conformity of Christ. “Familiarity breeds contempt.” I pray that these verses become familiar to me and to live a life of obedience to You. In you, I pray that I continue to nurture the love, hope, peace, joy, and many other things that a relationship with you will bring, when I am faithful to you. In Jesus’ name.
