If you are passionate about worship, skilled musically or vocally, and feel called to join our Refuge Worship Team, we would love for you to be part of the Refuge Worship team.
Ready to join the team?
Step 1: Read the Refuge Worship Team Guidelines
Our heart for Refuge Music is to connect people with God through corporate worship music. We want to lead by example, with both passion and excellence! Here are some helpful guidelines about how we do things and what we expect from our team members.
Scheduling:
We will set the schedule one month in advance on Planning Center. It's important that you are familiar with how this program works. If you have questions, feel free to ask!
If you have a job with a schedule that varies, please block off dates ahead of time in Planning Center Check your email for Planning Center requests, and either accept or decline your invitation to serve at least two weeks in advance.
After you have accepted your scheduled dates in Planning Center, attendance is required (excluding sickness and emergencies). Failure to keep your commitment 3 times within a 6-month period will lead to further conversations about your role.
Rehearsals:
Start Times: Instrumentalists arrive at 7:30am, vocalists at 7:45am.
Team Huddle: At 7:45am, we gather with the worship and tech team for a quick meeting before rehearsal.
Arrive to rehearsals on time to ensure that your in-ears and personal mixes are set up. This includes being plugged in, tuned up, and set in your places!
Come prepared both musically and spiritually:
Know which songs we’re doing.
Take time during the week to listen, practice, and learn your parts.
Be prayerful and ready to lead others into God’s presence.
Vocalists: If you are leading a song, you are expected to know it inside and out. Be ready to confidently guide the band and clearly communicate what you need musically to lead well.
Personal Growth
Team members must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is consistent and growing through prayer, Bible reading and church fellowship.
Regular church attendance in-person (even if you are not scheduled to play or sing) is important - this means being attentive to the sermon, being teachable and involved in ways that will help us grow in our faith and as members of the body of Christ at Refuge.
Your walk with God is important to us, both on and off the platform. We look at serving in Refuge Music as a big honor to lead a group of people in worship. If your public behavior outside of the team does not reflect someone who has encountered Jesus, we will have a conversation about your role on the team.
Please be open to feedback in your specific gift area. Our goal is to grow you in both heart and skill!
Please wear clean, modest, and appropriate clothes you don't mind being recorded or photographed in.
Step 2: Attend Refuge Life within the first couple of months of serving.
Attending Refuge Life is required for all volunteers. Refuge Life is a class designed to help you learn more about Refuge — who we are, what we do, and how you can be a part of it. It’s held every other month after a Sunday service and lasts about an hour and a half.
You’re welcome to submit your volunteer application before attending Refuge Life, but we ask that all volunteers attend the class within their first couple of months of serving.
Step 3: Fill out the Refuge Worship Team Application
Step 4: Audition
Auditions are a very practical tool for evaluating the skills and heart of people who feel called to serve on a worship team. And we promise that it will never be like American Idol! We want to create a “dread free” atmosphere for our audition process as much as possible. At the same time, we value honesty, and we want to encourage the pursuit of skill in the music we present to the Lord.
You’ll have two options for your audition:
In-Person: Schedule a time with our Worship Director.
Video Submission: Upload a video directly through this application.
Audition Songs:
If you already have a recording of you singing or playing, feel free to upload that. If you’d like to create a new audition video, please choose one of the following songs:
