An underlining theme of Ecclesiastes is that life apart from God is pointless. Ecclesiastes presents a realistic perspective of life and that life without God has no meaning. Solomon the author seems to come across in a somewhat disheartening way, questioning and airing frustrations because much in life is not completely understood. The message of Ecclesiastes can be summed up as; “man left to his own strategies will always find life empty.”
The reason people hate their life is because they don’t know or understand the meaning of life. Only with God’s perspective revealed through a relationship with Jesus can we understand life and its true meaning. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 ESV
A challenge in today’s society is to understand the true meaning of life; especially when things happen that are confusing and discouraging, or facing failure and defeat. Life has meaning, but its meaning is only found in right relationship with God. When our life is found in Christ and our purpose is discovered in Him, we will find the true meaning of life.
