Day 9 | January 9

DAY 9 | January 9, 2024 | MORE HUMILITY

VERSE: Daniel 4:37 “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” ESV

Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, learned a great lesson in humility after a seven-year period of losing his mind. Today we would call it insanity; yet God delivered him and will deliver us from our insanity as well. Prideful thinking is a form of insanity, because it is exalting ourselves and rejecting the Lord. There is no true exaltation apart from the Lord. It is He who exalts us and not ourselves, it’s insane to think otherwise. “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” James 4:10 ESV.

We are what we are by the grace of God. We must acknowledge God’s grace is at work in us to remain humble. We must give God credit for whatever success we have achieved in life. Taking credit for ourselves is a very dangerous place to be. Nebuchadnezzar learned the hard way that God is able to humble those who walk in pride. Pride is blinding to the one who has it; the prideful refuse to give credit and acknowledgment to whom it is due and take it for themselves. The king’s statement of pride before he was humbled was… “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?” Daniel 4:30 ESV. He failed to give glory to God!

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, as an act of our will we choose to humble ourselves before you. Help us to recognize prideful words that we may speak that fail to acknowledge who you are and what you have done for us.
