How to Have Faith in God

“And Peter remembered and said to him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered." 22 And Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God. 23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:21-24 ESV.

Certainly we understand the importance of having faith in God and that it is absolutely essential for every believer. However, the phrase in this passage, “Have faith in God” in the Greek language actually states and is better translated as “have the faith of God,” or “have the God kind of faith.” Jesus by his example was demonstrating to His disciples how they too could operate in the kind of faith that He exercised under God’s authority.

When we’re operating with the faith of God we believe before we receive. We believe as if we have already received the answer. The ‘God kind of faith’ is a faith released in words spoken with a belief in the heart to back it up. What we believe in our heart we will speak with our mouth because, “…out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:34 ESV. This principle is working all the time, yet many do not realize it. Believing the answer is already ours is proof of our faith and will be confirmed by the words we speak.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank you for making it possible for us to operate with the kind of faith you demonstrated when you walked with your disciples. Thank you that we can speak to the mountains of opposition in our life and whatever we ask in prayer it shall be done for us. We believe that we have received the answer to our prayer.

God bless,

Pastor Matt
