A Prayer For Our Nation

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV

2 Chronicles 7:14 is recognized as invitation to pray for the nation of Israel, yet in principle it can be applied to any nation. It is clearly an appeal to God’s people to seek His face on behalf of the nation. We see in this passage keys for effective prayer. Effective prayer requires humility, a determination to seek God's face and a willingness to turn from wickedness. Effective prayer secures heavens response of forgiveness and healing. If we call upon the Lord in prayer, He has promised in His Word to answer, if we don’t call on Him He has promised nothing. The truth of the matter is that God responds to those who call on Him and has promised to hear us from heaven. “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Jeremiah 33:3 ESV. What an incredible promise!

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we pray for America and ask that you would exalt our nation again. You have stated in your word that “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. (Proverbs 14:34 ESV). We humble ourselves and seek your face and turn away from sin. We pray for revival that will change not only the spiritual climate but also the moral landscape. As the psalmist said, “Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” (Psalm 85:6 ESV) in Jesus Name we pray.
