Anxiety: Part 5

“Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” Proverbs 12:25 ESV

Anxiety is a weight upon the heart. As a weight, a burden or a shackle have we considered the degree that anxiety limits our progress in life? Weights impede one’s ability to move or advance forward. People are stuck in life because they have become victims to the weight of anxiety. Someone weighed down has a difficult time functioning in life. For some anxiety has been disabling, resulting in the inability to function with normalcy.

Medical science may address the physical symptoms of anxiety and treat it with medication but often fails to address it from a spiritual standpoint. Although there may be physical causes of anxiety, it is largely mental and spiritual when the pressure and stress of life becomes overwhelming and we fail to look to God.

As human beings we were not created with the natural ability to deal with Anxiety. Anxiety is a spiritual problem yet affects our physical well-being. When the brain is unable to properly produce and regulate two important neurotransmitters called GABA and serotonin anxiety occurs. Medical science identifies poor diet, genetics, excess stress, or other difficult to identify causes. A remedy however stated in Proverbs 12:25 is to receive a good word. God’s Word is a powerful source of encouragement to treat or combat anxiety.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we choose to lay aside the weight of anxiety as we run the race that is set before us, and look to Jesus. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…” Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV.

God bless,

Pastor Matt
