How to be an Encourager

“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV 

 The scripture instructs us to encourage and build up one another. This is important to understand bearing in mind that everyone faces discouragement in life no matter who they are. We would all agree that life gives us plenty of opportunities to be discouraged. Circumstances and situations we face can leave us disappointed where fear and doubt begin to dominate our life, however an encouraging word can make all the difference. How we handle discouragement is of great importance in order live life victoriously.

Discouragement is intended to weigh us down and force us to quit and give up, but encouragement builds us up and helps us to stay in the race. An encouraging word gives us courage to press on and not give in to the pressures of life but to fight the good fight of faith. “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12 ESV.

TODAY’S PRAYER 

Heavenly Father, thank for helping us realize the important of building others up rather than tearing them down. Help us to live life as an encourager rather than a discourager, in Jesus Name.
