Jesus is Building His Church

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18 ESV

Just after Peter declares that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God In verse 16, Jesus declares in verse 18 that Peter’s statement is the rock or revelation that He is building His church upon. The Lordship of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the church. Jesus makes it clear that He is building His church upon His Lordship, and the gates which refer to the governments of hell are incapable of prevailing or holding out against it. The Greek word for church is ekklésia, meaning the called out ones referring to the whole body of Christian believers.

As a lead pastor this is a most comforting and reassuring statement from the lips of Jesus Christ. Knowing first of all it’s His church, secondly that it is built on the person of Jesus Christ, upon His strength and ability not ours. Jesus is the one building His church yet He is working through us to get the job done. We have a cooperative part and role to play. I thank God often that it is Jesus who is building His church and the gates of hell cannot prevail against it. Jesus is the major contractor, we are just laborers working with Him. For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building.” 1 Corinthians 3:9 ESV.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, we acknowledge that you are building your church and no force is capable of prevailing against it. We are privileged to be a part of your victorious church that represents you in this earth as a witness to proclaim the truth of the Gospel.

God bless,
