Prepare The Way

“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.” Malachi 3:1 ESV

Transition is the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another. The transition from the Old to the New Testament is very significant. We see the Old Testament ending with a promise and the New Testament beginning with the fulfillment of the promise. The New Testament is built upon the foundation of the Old consummating God’s plan for humanity and His eternity purpose.

Between Malachi and Matthew over 400 years transpire which are known as the silent years. During that time period God did not speak to the Jewish people through His prophets, at least none that were recorded. The 400 years of silence began with the promise that concluded the Old Testament: "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.” Malachi 4:5 ESV. These silent years were ended with the coming of John the Baptist, who came in the spirit of Elijah. John, the forerunner of Jesus Christ came on the scene to prepare the people for His coming.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, as John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus first coming help us to prepare the way for His return with our witness. “Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.” Matthew 3:3 ESV.

God Bless,
