Putting God's Interests First

“You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house.” Haggai 1:9 ESV

Negligence due to misaligned priorities is the subject of the word of the Lord to God’s people through the prophet Haggai. During a time of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem and restoration of the people to their homeland it was also a time of neglect. It’s possible that we can be so busy with our own house (interests) that we neglect the house (interests) of God. When we take care of God’s business and put His interests first He will take care of our interests. So often people claim they are too busy that they don’t have time for God and have not considered His priorities. Misaligned priorities is the reason negligence occurs, especially in this case for God’s people.

A person acts negligently if he or she fails to comply with reasonable conduct expected of them. Negligence is an avoidance or failure to take responsibility for what we are responsible for. Negligence is not what we do but what we fail to do that results in a negative outcome. Misaligned priorities is often the reason we struggle in life; so putting God’s interests first will always result in the blessing of the Lord in our lives. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 ESV.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, convict us of areas we have been negligent in our life due to misaligned priorities especially in regards to your house (The Church). Help us to put you first not only in word only but also in our actions.

God Bless,

Pastor Matt
