Salt and Light

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. 14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:13-14 ESV

How often do we underestimate our influence in the earth and minimize our role as followers of Christ? Jesus uses salt and light as a comparison to describe our influential role in this world. The properties of salt and light are essential for life. As salt preserves and seasons for taste, and as light illuminates and is necessary for plants to grow, it’s important that believers take seriously their impact upon society. God desires that our lives be visible as a city on a hill which cannot not hidden.

The term Christian means Christ like or little Christ; which is a huge responsibility as we live our lives to represent Him in the earth. Our role is that of an ambassador, a representative of Christ to an unbelieving world. “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ...” 2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Thank you Jesus for your declaration of our significance and role in this world to be salt and light. Help us not lose our saltiness or fail to let our light shine because of compromise in our lives. Give us understanding of our role and calling to impact the culture as your faithful ambassadors.

God bless,

Pastor Matt
