Walking on Water

“Just before the light of day, Jesus went to them walking on the water. 26 When the followers saw Him walking on the water, they were afraid. They said, “It is a spirit.” They cried out with fear. 27 At once Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take hope. It is I. Do not be afraid!” 28 Peter said to Jesus, “If it is You, Lord, tell me to come to You on the water.” 29 Jesus said, “Come!” Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid. He began to go down in the water. He cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 At once Jesus put out His hand and took hold of him. Jesus said to Peter, “You have so little faith! Why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:25-31 NLV

Jesus proved that He could suspend natural laws of science and perform the impossible. There were no limitations or restrictions on what Jesus could do as long as it did not violate the Word of God.

Not only did Jesus walk on water, but invited Peter to walk on water as well. Peter moved out of the boat simply in response to Jesus command to come. In faith Peter stepped out and walked on water as long as his eyes were on Jesus. When his focus was distracted by the wind and waves he realized what he was doing was impossible and began to sink. Jesus command no longer was the basis of His faith because his focus has shifted to the natural circumstances. Jesus responded to his cry for help and reached out to save him from being engulfed by the sea.

Whenever we take our eyes off Jesus we begin to sink and are engulfed by surrounding circumstances. God does not want us to live under the circumstances but to walk above the circumstances of life which may seem to be impossible for many, yet is possible for those who believe and respond to His command to come.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord, thank you for faith to do the impossible and the invitation to walk above what is capable of engulfing us. Let our eyes be fixed on you so we will not distracted by what’s happening around us.

God bless,
