Watch What You Say

“You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."” Matthew 12:34-37 ESV

Jesus shares an important principle of the power of words when confronting the scribes and Pharisees. Jesus addresses the heart and how the words we speak reveal its true condition.  The scribes and Pharisees were unwilling to allow God to change their nature. They had religion but no relationship with the Lord who only alone could change their heart. The true condition our heart and who we are is revealed by the words we speak. Words are a heart indicator and the mouth reflects what’s in the heart. Whatever fills our heart is what our mouth will speak.

What is the treasure of your heart, is it good or evil? What is your heart filled with? It all depends what you are feeding on, so treasure God’s Word in your heart. The words of your mouth is the criteria by which you will be judged. The reality is that there is a day of judgement, and you will be judged by the words of your mouth, so let the speaker beware.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, you alone can change our heart, so we give our heart to you. We will treasure your Word in our heart knowing it has power to transform us (For the word of God is living and powerful… Hebrews 4:12 NKJV). Let your Word be evident in the words we speak.

God bless,

Pastor Matt
