Need A Break?

“If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. 29 Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. 30 This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 CEV

Jesus offer to give a break is attractive and welcoming for the tired, the weary and the heavy hearted among us. Jesus’ illustration is an invitation to connect with Him in our struggle so that we don’t have to face the burdens of life alone.

What a wonderful personal invitation to come to Jesus and find rest. Jesus invites us to yoke up with Him, because He is more than capable of pulling the weight. A yoke is a harness built for two that is designed to pull a load. A yoke joins two so they can work together. We may feel we have a heavy load to bear in life, but we don’t have to bear it alone, so yoke up with Jesus today. His yoke is easy and when we’re yoked up with Jesus our burden becomes light.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, we accept your invitation to come to you when we are tired and weary from the heavy burdens of life. Thank you for your gentle humility that is demonstrated in your willingness to connect with our struggle. We are confident that we can bear up under life’s difficulties when we are yoked up with you.
