Pentecost Sunday: The Outpouring

…this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 17 And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all people…” Acts 2:16-17 CSB

THE OUTPOURING

“…this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 17 And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all people…” Acts 2:16-17 CSB

An outpouring of God’s Spirit is likened to a downpour of rain. There are two significant periods of rain for a crop to produce a successful harvest; in the springtime for planting to get the young seeds and plants off to a good start and just prior to harvest to bring the crop to full maturity. “Rejoice, you people of Jerusalem! Rejoice in the Lord your God! For the rain he sends demonstrates his faithfulness. Once more the autumn rains will come, as well as the rains of spring.” Joel 2:23 NLT.

The Church was birthed in Acts chapter 2 on the day of Pentecost when God poured out His Spirit upon the 120 that were gathered in the upper room just as God had promised. This signified the beginning of the last days. When the disciples of Jesus came out of the upper room Peter preached and quoted from Joel chapter 2. The promise is in reference to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the last days (Acts 2:16-21). The last days are in reference to the period of time between the first and second coming of Jesus Christ to the earth. It’s a time of outpouring that shows no respect of persons and includes all people. No one is exempt or left out. Salvation is available for all who call on His Name. “And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Acts 2:21 ESV.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Thank you Heavenly Father for the promise of the outpouring of Your Spirit in these last days. It is our desire to experience all that you have prepared and planned for us.
