Created To Serve

"Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel, who are prophesying, and say to those who prophesy from their own hearts: 'Hear the word of the Lord!' 3 Thus says the Lord God, Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!” Ezekiel 13:2-3 ESV

It is foolish to attempt to represent God when you are not really following Him. That was the case with the false prophets Ezekiel confronted. There is much that can be said about the need to follow which is part of our human nature. We were created with the capacity to serve and follow, the big question is who will we serve and who will we follow? The natural tendency of the heart is to follow what is self-serving or self-fulfilling in life, yet the result often leaves one empty and unfulfilled.

We are living in a self-service culture from the gas station to the grocery store. Still, we are not to have a self-service mentality when it comes to serving God and others. Serving is about what we do for others, not what we do for our self. Who we serve and who we follow are connected and related to each another. Whatever we follow determines what or who we serve. To serve is to be subject to another by giving of our strength, focus and attention. We will most likely follow the most dominant influence in our life depending what it is. Influence is what we subject ourselves to that affects our decisions in life. To serve Jesus, you must follow Him. “If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.” John 12:26 ESV

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank you for the opportunity and privilege to serve you and follow you. We choose to follow you and not our own spirit. Thank you for your promise in John 8:12 “…Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ESV

God Bless,

Pastor Matt
