A Prayer For Unity

“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” John 17:20-23 ESV

Jesus prior to His crucifixion prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane for unity. Without unity among God’s people, the world will never be won or come to know Him. As believers our hearts must be one with God’s heart before we can be one with each other.

Walking in the love of God is the foundation for unity, and unity is the foundation for the demonstration of God’s power through the church. There is a progression from love to unity, and from unity to the manifestation of God’s power. Unity is not based on our preferences but in agreement with the truth of God’s Word. There is a spiritual aspect to unity that we have in our relationship with Christ that must be converted to a practical demonstration of unity among our brothers and sisters in Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, we pray that we may all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a place of maturity, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. We pray in agreement with your Word that we may be one as you are one with the Father.

God Bless,

Pastor Matt
