Going Public With Your Faith

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 ESV

Water baptism is an act of obedience to a direct command for those who have believed and received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. In water baptism the believer is immersed in water as an initial testimony of his or her faith and obedience to God. For those who have decided to follow Jesus Christ, this step is vital in their ongoing journey with Him.

Water baptism is going public with our faith, which is so important for the new believer. Many attempt to remain private with their faith and never fulfill God’s plan for their life. Water baptism is an open, public profession that Jesus Christ is our Lord, it’s an outward sign or symbol of an inward experience.

Baptism is a public declaration which acknowledges the important decision to surrender our life to Jesus. It’s a decision that sets us apart from our past and negative worldly influences that once controlled our life. Baptism is a symbol of a spiritual change that has occurred in our life.

Water baptism is identification with Jesus Christ in His death, burial and resurrection, it’s a physical sermon. As we are laid down in the water we are testifying that we die to our old self, as we are brought up we are testifying that we have been raised up in new life by Jesus resurrection. Through submersion in baptism we symbolically speak of the death and burial of our old way of life and rising up out of the water to a new way of life in Christ. “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4 ESV. There is no denial for those who have followed the Lord in water baptism of the encounter of His presence and its impact in their lives.
