The Fiery Furnace

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."” Daniel 3:16-18 ESV 

Anyone who has read the account of the fiery furnace can’t help but be moved by this story of great devotion to the one true God. These three young men are an example of courage and trust in their refusal to deny the Lord or compromise their faith. My heart is moved by this story that gives God the glory as His power is demonstrated to deliver those willing to stand up for Him. These young men were prepared to die, even if God didn’t show up that day.

No one can impose or force us to worship a false god against our will. When the pressure is on and we’re under fire if we stay true to God we will come out without smelling like smoke. Stay true to God no matter what you are facing in life whether its persecution or pressure to compromise. “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” Isaiah 43:2 ESV.

“Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished and rose up in haste… I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods."” Daniel 3:24-25 ESV. 

TODAY’S PRAYER 

Lord, thank you for giving us the boldness of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to not bow to false gods. Let us stand faithful and true to you no matter what comes our way.
