Revenge

“Do not say, "I will repay evil," wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.” Proverbs 20:22 ESV

The scripture instructs us not to seek our own revenge. It’s difficult for most people to let God even the score and to forgive those who have mistreated us. When wronged or offended, often we take things into our own hands and want to strike back. It is a natural human response; nevertheless we are to wait for Lord, He is a master at handling life’s offense situations and will deliver us. He may not respond in our timing, we have to trust Him, but be assured that He will act in our best interests if we commit the matter to Him. Following Biblical protocol works to our advantage. “See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.” 1 Thessalonians 5:15 ESV.

Consider instruction from the book of Romans… “Don’t take revenge, dear friends. Instead, let God’s anger take care of it. After all, Scripture says, “I alone have the right to take revenge. I will pay back, says the Lord.” 20 But, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink. If you do this, you will make him feel guilty and ashamed. 21 Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil with good.” Romans 12:19-21 GW.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help us not to be revengeful and take to heart the instruction from your Word to conquer evil with good. Also, thank you for the radical message Jesus declared in Matthew 5:44; that we are to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us in Jesus Name.

God bless,

Pastor Matt
