Day 11 | January 11
DAY 11 | January 11, 2024 | MORE UNITY
Verse: Psalms 133:1 “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” ESV
More unity is needed in our world today when we consider how divided society is. Unity is an important element for the advancement of God’s Kingdom in the earth and the fulfillment of His purpose among believers. Where Godly unity exists, He commands the blessing, “It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.” Psalms 133:3 ESV.
Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane (as recorded in John 17) for unity among His disciples. His prayer was also for those who would believe in Him through their word. He prayed that we would be with one with each other as He is one with the Father. That level of unity has an incredible impact upon the world which testifies of Jesus and cannot be achieved without God’s involvement. If there is no unity, there is no power to accomplish His plan. Unity unleashes His supernatural power.
Jesus prayed this crucial prayer for us… “That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:20-21 ESV.” This oneness Jesus addresses is speaking of a unifying effect in our lives that makes us a part of His family. The world is waiting to see unity among believers, a unity that makes us one with Jesus Christ and the Father.
The message of Christianity is unique in the fact that God desires to unite us to Himself by His power. God is relational and desires to bring us into a close relationship with Himself. In Jesus’ own words in His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, He describes and calls forth a unity among believers. He describes this unity as a relational experience that unites us together. Just as He experiences a relationship as being one with the Father, we are also given that opportunity to be united with Him as well as other believers.
The unity that exists between Jesus and the Father is a unity that’s intended to be shared among believers. We become one with the Father through acceptance of the Son and enter into the realm of unity He has pre-arranged. When someone accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they are joined, united, and brought into union with the Father and with Jesus Christ. Then, it’s God’s intent that we unite with fellow believers in order to impact the world around us with the Gospel.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we ask that you fulfill Jesus prayer in us for our generation as you did in the early church, in Jesus Name.
“Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul… 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.” Acts 4:32-33 ESV
