Don't Follow the Crowd

“But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead. 12 And Pilate again said to them, "Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?" 13 And they cried out again, "Crucify him." 14 And Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the more, "Crucify him." 15 So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.” Mark 15:11-15 ESV

Beware of falling into the trap of satisfying the crowd as Pilate did. In this case satisfying the crowd resulted in a guilty man being released and an innocent man being executed. Following the crowd was the cause for rejecting Jesus Christ because of peer pressure. Peer pressure is a force that will drive us if we are not principled in our convictions. We are never to follow the crowd unless the crowd is following Jesus. There are lines we should draw in the sand that should never be crossed when it comes to serving God. This world is full of compromise, but it should not be found in the church among true believers.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, let us not become crowd pleasers that reject Jesus and crucify once again the Son of God to our own harm (Hebrews 6:6 ESV). Forgive us for times we have allowed the crowd to be a greater influence in our lives than you.

God bless,

Pastor Matt
