Anxiety: Part 2

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

We see a clear command in scripture that gives us the remedy and prescription to combat anxiety. Rather than being anxious and worrying about something we are to pray about it instead. Without prayer we will never find peace when dealing with anxious thoughts. When the burden of our heart has become too heavy for us to bear we must release it to God in pray.

An important component of prayer that we see in verse six is to make supplication with thanksgiving. Supplication literally means to make a request or petition. Thanksgiving is the attitude of prayer that expresses our faith. A prayer of supplication is simply asking God for something, making our request known by telling Him what we need or want with a thankful heart. We are promised that the peace of God which transcends all human logic will protect our hearts and minds from anxious thoughts. Instead of anxiety ruling our hearts it is God’s peace that will rule and guard it. It is only God’s peace that can effectively guard the heart and mind against anxiety.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Thank you Father for providing the solution and remedy for anxiety. Help us to be mindful to pray about our problems instead of being anxious about them. As we seek you in prayer we receive your peace that surpasses all understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

God bless,
