Ask, Seek, and Knock

“"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:7-11 ESV

The heart and character of the Father is revealed in this passage. Jesus not only instructs and encourages us to ask the Father for what we have need of, He reveals how much more our Father in heaven delights to give us good things. Not only are we to ask; we are to seek and knock which indicates different levels of our seriousness In pursuit of an answer. The Father longs for us to reach out to Him because He has so much that He wants to give to us. We often live far below the potential of what we have access to through our relationship with Jesus because we fail to ask. “You do not have, because you do not ask…” James 4:2 ESV.

We sometimes assume that God is withholding something good from us when we ask or make a request. It is clear in this passage that the Father absolutely delights in giving good things to those who ask him. How much more does He want to bless us than what we may realize. We are to ask the Father with confidence and expectation knowing that when we ask we will receive, when our heart motive is right.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Thank you Father that Jesus came to show us who you are and instructed us to ask, seek and knock. Thank you that whatever we ask in prayer we are confident that you will answer.

God bless,
