What Does The Lord Require?

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 ESV

Micah addresses the wayward condition of the people by informing them of the basic requirements for right living; namely, referring to the attitude of the heart toward God and man. We too should place a value on these requirements.

Discovery of what the Lord requires is clearly shown in this passage and should be the quest of sincere believers to live up to them. What He requires is often perceived as out of reach or beyond what we are able to comply with. However; being just, showing kindness and walking in humility before God is something we are capable of accomplishing when our hearts and lives are surrendered to Him. Through the new birth (John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:3), our nature is changed because we have become partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4). The work of God’s grace empowers us to do what He has required. A deeper study of these requirements for those who are serious with God is well worth the time invested.

TODAY’S PRAYER 

Heavenly Father, help us to place a greater value on these requirements and embrace them as attributes of godly character that are being developed in our lives.
