God's Unfailing Love

“The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.” Hosea 3:1 NIV

Very often our life is a message, such was the case with the prophet Hosea. His marriage to Gomer was a message for Israel and to us revealing the magnitude of God’s incredible love. The book of Hosea reveals God’s steadfast and unfailing love for Israel even in her continued unfaithfulness. He shows Himself as a loving and compassionate God who does not give up loving us even though we’ve been unfaithful and undeserving of His love.

Hosea’s marriage to Gomer as a loving husband is not only a message, but also an example of God’s love for Israel and us. Hosea searches for and rescues Gomer after she had reverted to a life of prostitution, certainly this is as example of God’s love that reaches out to His wayward people. No matter how unlovable we may think we are, God desires that we know and experience His love for us.

God never stopped loving his people even though they kept going back to their sins. Because He loved them He never stopped pleading with them. “Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity” Hosea 14:1 ESV

The story of Hosea and Gomer is a lesson of love and forgiveness. Understand that God hates sin, it grieves His heart. He does not condone it, however His perfect righteousness and justice demanded that He deal with it. Just as Hosea paid the ransom price to free Gomer from her bondage, Jesus paid the price to forgive us by bearing the full penalty of our sins.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord, thank you for your unfailing love you demonstrated toward us even when we've been unfaithful. Thank you Jesus for rescuing us and paying the full price of our ransom so we could go free. Give us a greater revelation of your unfailing love.
