Heart Of Stone

"And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.” Ezekiel 36:26-27 ESV

The word heart in Ezekiel 36:26 does not refer to the physical organ but to the spiritual essence of who we are as a person. It refers to the innermost part of our nature. God promises to give us a new heart with the intent of removing the heart of stone from our flesh. We observe in this passage that the heart of stone is contrasted with a heart of flesh. The heart of stone signifies a heart that is hardened, rebellious, stubborn and unchanging compared to a heart of flesh that is soft and pliable. The new heart is capable of walking in His statues and obeying them in contrast to the heart of stone that cannot. Without a changed heart it’s impossible to walk with God and serve His purpose. Every person must come to realized that they need a heart change. Without a changed heart people may have religion based on their performance but they don’t have right relationship based on God’s performance.

We are to give our hearts to God. An encounter with Jesus and surrender to His Lordship results in us receiving a new heart and becoming one with Him. “…God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts…” Galatians 4:6 ESV.

 TODAY’S PRAYER

Thank you Heavenly Father for removing the heart of stone that was corrupt, and incapable of living for you. Thank you for giving us a new heart that is changed and conformed to the image of your Son. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV.

God Bless,
