A Troubled Heart Lacks Peace

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 NKJV

Just prior to Jesus arrest and crucifixion He promised His disciples that He would give them His peace. This promise was not only for His disciples but for every follower of Jesus. Jesus promised to give His followers peace in this life so their hearts would not be troubled. We can conclude from this verse that a troubled heart lacks peace.

Peace is an absence of conflict or turmoil, it is freedom from disturbing or oppressive thoughts or emotions, and it is also harmony in personal relations. Peace covers a large spectrum that relates to both God and man. The peace that Jesus gives addresses anxiety that afflicts the heart. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 ESV. Instead of being anxious about something pray about it as we make known the situation to God through our requests. Prayer will precede the peace that comes to guard our hearts and minds from disturbing and anxious thoughts.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Thank you Jesus for giving us your peace; a peace unlike anything we could receive from the world. A peace that is beyond our understanding that guards our hearts and minds in you.

God Bless,
