Correction & Discipline

“For the Lord will not cast off forever, 32 but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; 33 for he does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men.” Lamentations 3:31-33 ESV

The book of Lamentations expresses grief and mourning over the anguishes that had fallen on the people of Judah, yet the heart of God’s love for His people is emphasized. It is not God’s heart to afflict or grieve, yet as our heavenly Father He disciplines those whom He loves.

Confrontation, correction and discipline are never pleasant for a parent towards their child. However, it is necessary to discipline if we are to raise our children to succeed and serve God’s purpose. “For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” Hebrews 12:6 ESV.

Our heavenly Father disciplines us yet it is not His heart to afflict. He disciplines us out of a heart of compassion and generous supply of His steadfast love. Receiving correction from His hand is only in our best interests and will result in a favorable outcome. “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11 ESV.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Thank you Heavenly Father for your steadfast love that you show us even in the midst of your correction and discipline. We subject ourselves to you for correction and thank you for disciplining us for our own good. “Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? Hebrews 12:9 ESV

God Bless,
