Mercy

“Why should any living person complain when punished for his sins? 40 Let us carefully examine our ways, and let us return to the Lord.” Lamentations 3:39-40 NET

No one should complain about the punishment they rightfully deserve for their sins. Offenders have no right to complain since they are guilty as charged. Sin is criminal action against God laws and demands punishment or payment for the offense.

If you are speeding and receive a traffic violation you have no right to complain, because you’re guilty and the violation demands that you receive a citation and pay the fine or do the time. Although you have no right to complain you can appeal for mercy. I have had officers extend mercy to me when pulled over for a speeding violation; I deserved a ticket and was given a warning. I didn’t deny I was speeding; in fact I admitted my transgression of the law and thankfully was shown mercy. Although that has not always been the case I am always grateful when I am shown mercy.

Spiritually speaking, regardless of the sins we have committed, we’re invited to return to the Lord to receive His mercy. God has extended mercy towards us by bearing the penalty of our sins through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:24). Jesus took the punishment we deserved so we could go free. “He saved us not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of His mercy…” Titus 3:5 NET. We have no right to complain if we reject God’s mercy, it leaves us no other option other than to receive the punishment we deserve.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Thank you Lord that you don’t punish us as our sins deserve, because you have shown us mercy. Give us a revelation of your mercy and its impact in our life and for those who don’t know you. “This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”… 1 Timothy 1:15 NET.

God Bless,

Pastor Matt
