The Way To Destruction

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18 ESV 

Pride is a sure way to destruction. It deceives its victims; consequently the person with pride eventually is self-deceived. Pride is the exaltation of self, a sin people don’t often recognize as sin. Those walking in pride don’t often know it because pride blinds them from the truth. A person full of pride is unteachable and becomes unreachable until they humble themselves. The prideful refuses to admit the need for help so they are unable to receive the help they need. 

I once heard a minister say that pride is the only sin we don’t know we have. Other people recognize pride in us before we recognize it in ourselves. Most people don’t think they are prideful, yet they lack humility which is the only solution to arrest pride and defeat it. Many start out in humility but end up in pride as king Uzziah. He failed to continue to trust God after he and his kingdom became strong. “But when he was strong, he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was unfaithful to the Lord his God…” 2 Chronicles 26:16 ESV. King Uzziah’s pride resulted in unfaithfulness to the Lord which led to his destruction.

TODAY’S PRAYER 

Thank you Lord for delivering us from pride and protecting us from the way to destruction. We determine to humble ourselves according to your Word. “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” James 4:10 ESV.
