Pay Attention

“My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.” Proverbs 4:20-22 ESV

The words of a father to his son are significant as seen in this passage. Yet we can see how this applies to God the Father and His Word to His children. Failure to pay attention or be attentive to God’s Word can be very costly. It is blatant negligence for the believer to ignore God’s Word. There are so many distractions around us and so many things that are trying to get our attention, so how much more do we need to diligent to listen. Attention is something we give; it is within our power and ability to be attentive. We choose what we give attention to. Unless we are attentive we’re not be able to hear what someone is saying. Not only are we to be attentive to God’s Word but we are to keep His sayings within our heart and not let them escape from our sight.

Giving attention to God’s Word and treasuring it in your heart is life giving; it even includes health and healing for our physical bodies. “He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.” Psalm 107:20 ESV
