Search My Heart

“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” Psalms 139:23-24 ESV

Whenever we think of a search we think of an invasion of privacy or investigation to find information that can lead to a conviction. When we have nothing to hide we are usually willing to submit to a higher authority such as law enforcement to be searched. That is the precise posture we need to have before God because we should never attempt to hide anything from Him.

I have been searched several times in airports over the years going through security because of some item that looked suspicious in my carry on or for setting off the metal detector. Sometimes it was because an item was left in my pocket that I was not aware of and was not allowed to be on my person. These measures are established to ensure our own safety and the safety of all passengers traveling.

Spiritually we must be willing to submit to God’s authority for a search that will find something harmful in our life that will result in a conviction to change. We need to adopt a “search my heart” attitude before God. Because God knows us better than we know ourselves, He alone can reveal the true condition of our heart. He can show us where we are missing it and where we have gone wrong. Admitting that we are wrong can be difficult, yet it is the beginning of change and transformation in our life. If there is anything in our life that can harm us, we need to know so that we can yield that area to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, my prayer today is what David prayed: “Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting, In Jesus Name.

God bless,
